Same-Sex Marriage Update

April 25, 2015 Update:

Below is the United States Supreme Court media release for the Same-Sex Marriage cases.

The Court will provide the audio recording and transcript of the oral argument in 14-556, Obergefell v. Hodges, and consolidated cases, on an expedited basis through the Court’s Website. The argument is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, April 28 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
The Court will post the audio recording and unofficial transcript as soon as the digital files are available for uploading to the Website. The audio recording and transcript should be available no later than 2 p.m. on April 28.
Anyone interested in the proceedings will be able to access the recording and transcript directly through links on the homepage of the Court’s Website. The Court’s Website address is
www.supremecourt.gov.

PRESENTER: Thomas DeBoe, Attorney at Law, was the first elected president of Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council. Mr. DeBoe has 20 years experience practicing law in California, and he continues to address the community issues of Echo Park for over 20 years. He is an adjunct professor at Southwestern Law School. His areas of practice are Wills, Estate Planning, Business Transactions, Housing, Contracts and Consumer Law.

This one hour legal presentation is free and will address Wills, Power of Attorney, Advance Health Care Directive, Social Security and Medicare overviews. All are welcome.

2015 New California Laws

January 1, 2015, brought in a New Year and new California laws. These new laws include the following:

“Native American Day” is California’s new state holiday. The designated day is the fourth Friday in September. The legislature enacted this new state holiday because “…As the original peoples of our nation and state, Native Americans have provided extensive historical contributions to the State of California. For more than 12,000 years, Native Americans have inhabited, preserved, and cultivated this land that ultimately became the Golden State. To this day, several iconic regions in California, from Lake Tahoe to Malibu, are named after native origin….”
